Facial Aesthetics: your questions answered
Who carries out facial aesthetics at the practice?
Treatments are carried out by our dentists after a face-to-face consultation. Dr Jagmail Basrai is registered with the General Dental Council, GDC 70304. You will meet the clinician at your consultation, and can ask about their training and experience. Nothing is carried out on the day without a full discussion of the options, the possible side effects and the fee.
What happens at a facial aesthetics consultation?
Your clinician asks about your medical history and what you would like to change, examines the area and tells you honestly whether treatment is suitable. You will have the chance to ask questions about possible side effects and aftercare. If treatment is not suitable, you will be told why, and you are never under any pressure to go ahead.
What are dermal fillers?
Gels, usually made from hyaluronic acid, injected to add volume or soften lines and folds. Results are temporary and vary with the area treated and your skin. They are not suitable for everyone, and side effects such as swelling or bruising can happen. Your clinician will explain the possible risks and what to expect.
What other facial aesthetics treatments are available?
Other treatment options are discussed at a face-to-face facial aesthetics consultation. A clinician decides what, if anything, is suitable for you, and nothing is carried out without that consultation. You can ask about anything you have read or seen, and the clinician will explain honestly whether it is offered and whether it may suit you.
How much do facial aesthetic treatments cost?
The fee depends on the treatment and area. Your clinician confirms it in writing at your consultation, before anything is done. There is no obligation to have treatment after a consultation. The fee is set out clearly, so you know exactly what is included before you decide, and you can take time to think it over.
Is there any downtime?
Many people return to normal activities the same day, but some swelling or bruising can occur. Your clinician will explain what to expect. Swelling or bruising usually settles over a few days. Your clinician will give you aftercare guidance and tell you who to contact if you have any concerns after treatment.
Is there anyone who should not have treatment?
Some medical conditions, medicines and pregnancy can affect suitability. This is checked at your consultation. Tell the clinician about any medical conditions, medicines, allergies and previous treatments. If treatment is not suitable, you will be told why. Being open about your history helps the clinician decide what is safe for you.
Can I book treatment straight away?
No. Every facial aesthetics treatment starts with a consultation, and you will always have time to think before deciding. The consultation is a chance to talk about what you would like to change, ask questions and understand the possible risks. Nothing is carried out without your agreement.
How long does a facial aesthetics consultation take?
Allow enough time to talk about your goals, medical history and any concerns. We will confirm the length when you book. There is time to ask questions and hear the possible risks. You do not have to decide on the day, and nothing is carried out without your agreement.
Do I need to be a dental patient?
No. You can book a facial aesthetics consultation whether or not you are a dental patient with us. If you are new to the practice, we will ask about your medical history, medicines and any allergies when you book. This helps the clinician prepare for your consultation and decide what, if anything, may suit you.
What should I tell the clinician?
Tell the clinician about your medical history, medicines, allergies, previous treatments and anything you are unsure about. It helps to bring a list of your medicines and details of any previous facial treatments, including the product used and when. Mention any worries too, so the clinician can talk them through with you.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, you are welcome to bring someone with you to your consultation. Having someone with you can help you remember what was discussed and talk the options through afterwards. You can also take the information home and decide in your own time, with no pressure to go ahead.
Is there a minimum age?
Facial aesthetics consultations are for adults aged 18 and over. You may be asked for proof of age. Treatment is never carried out on anyone under 18, and the clinician will always discuss your medical history before deciding whether any treatment is suitable.
Do you use dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid?
Dermal fillers discussed at the practice are typically hyaluronic acid gels. The clinician will explain any product proposed and its suitability for you. Ask any questions you have about the product, its use and possible side effects. You will have time to think about the information before deciding.
How long do dermal filler results last?
Results are not permanent and vary between people and areas treated. The clinician will explain what to expect for you. How long results last depends on the area, the product and your skin. You will be told what to expect and what aftercare is advised before deciding.
Can I change my mind after the consultation?
Yes. There is no obligation to have any treatment after a consultation, and you can take time to think. You will have the information in writing, including the fee, so you can think it over at home. If you have more questions later, you can message us on WhatsApp.
